About our club
How we started
In 2005, SMUKC was officially established as an affiliate of the Singapore Kendo Club and is currently the second youngest kendo club in Singapore. We are recognized as a Core CCA under SMU, which is testament to the hard work and dedication of our kendokas, past and present.
Our club continues to grow each year, taking part in competitions and hosting events.
SMU Kendo Club (SMUKC) began in 2005, when a group of like-minded students training at the Singapore Kendo Club decided to form their very own university kendo club.
-
To enable members to discover themselves through rigorous training
-
To cultivate tenacity and team camaraderie by pushing our members to their physical and mental limits
-
To create a positive training environment through fun and interactive training sessions
Our mission
Our vision
We aspire to be Singapore's premier affiliate kendo club, recognized for the discipline and fighting spirit of our kendokas
More than that, we want to become a place for fellow SMU students to discover the elegance of this traditional Japanese art
More than just a martial arts club, SMUKC is a community that has inspired generations of SMU students. For many of us, SMUKC is a second home that has truly changed our university journey. Listen to our alumni and current members share about their kendo experience
Our people
"SMUKC provides me with a family that I can come back to even after graduation and some amazing opportunities: from meeting the Singapore PM to welcoming Japanese exchange students"
Chihiro, SOSS year 2017

"Kendo not only trains both the mind and body, it helped me meet amazing people (in other Kendo clubs as well!).
